There will always be the debate over who might be the "best" point guard in the game of basketball. When talking about the subject there are many different stats that need to be considered. The best in the league hang at the top of the list in points per game, assists, shot percentage, and steals. No one will ever be as great as Allen Iverson, but there are a few point guards that might give him a run for his money.

When healthy, I believe that Derrick Rose should be seen as the best point guard in the NBA. Not only is he a great shooter, but he can also go inside and dunk over anyone who stands in his way. Rose won the Rookie of the Year in the '08-'09 season and the MVP of the league in the 2010-2011 season. These are two historical awards to win and it takes a great point guard to win them.

Chris Paul is also someone to bring up in debate. Since joining Blake Griffen and the rest of the LA Clippers, he has been lights out. Not only does he average 17 a game, but he also averages 9.6 assists which is incredible.

Kyrie Irving is a young point guard in his second year in the NBA. Last year he won Rookie of the Year and is looking like a top notch guard this year. He averages 23 points per game and in my opinion has the best handles in the NBA. Not to mention the fact that he won the three point contest this year over guys like Steve Novak and Stephen Curry.
It is a tough decision and I will leave the debate up to you guys in the comments below.
I, personally, would say Chris Paul. The moves that he has in his arsenal, and his night-to-night consistency, plus Blake Griffin by his side, the Clips become unstoppable.
ReplyDeleteI would like to think at this point the best point guard is Chris Paul I also see Rajon Rondo as one of the top point guards. Both Derrick Rose and Kyrie Irving are excellent point guards as well but they're still developing. I think in two years Kyrie Irving will be the best in the league followed by Rose and then Rondo. Good blog.
ReplyDeleteI concur with Brady, Rondo may not get as many points, but his assists and ability to drive in is almost unparalleled. I also believe that Kyrie Irving has a high chance of becoming unstoppable with the return of Anderson Verajao, a top notch rebounder. One could only speculate as to how fearsome the Cavs would have been with a Lebron, Irving, Verajao combination.
ReplyDeleteIf Lebron hadn't left*
ReplyDeleteI would have to go with Chris Paul in this group because of the way he handles pressure and the consistancy of his play. Along with his leadership and teams he has around him.
